The entire shoe is made in the Czech Republic, but not only from Czech materials. Unfortunately, it is not possible to ensure long-term serial production using materials from the Czech Republic. However, all materials are actually produced (not just imported) in the EU. We collect the leather in a Czech tannery, the cows come from free pastures. Did you know that cows are not killed for their leather? Using leather is essentially waste processing. Nowadays, a lot of cow hide ends up in incinerators, so we are happy that at least some of it will be used for further processing.

Icarus took off immediately and flew high. Ignoring his father's warning, Icarus climbed up towards the sun. He got so close that the heat melted the wax holding his wings together, and Icarus fell from the sky. Most people criticize Icarus for being reckless; they say he should have played it safe, avoiding a dangerous situation. We decide to focus on Icarus choosing to take a bold risk, to set out to achieve something no one else had ever done. Icarus may have failed in his task, but he did so inside the arena, striving valiantly to do the deed, devoting himself to a worthy cause. After experiencing the negative effects of running in stiff shoes with maximal support, they began researching the benefits of running barefoot. Walking the path to optimal health and fitness

The** Peluva® **story begins with a pioneering vision to change the way the world walks, and a dream collaboration between Mark Sisson and his son, Kyle Sisson (pictured above.) Through their own deep research and applied knowledge, Mark and Kyle have identified the greatest design challenge facing the minimalist shoe movement and taken it head on. Over the last two and half years, they've charted a course for blue ocean by reimagining the concept of minimalist shoes, with the first-ever design to deliver all three crucial buying criteria: greater comfort, function and style.

However, the real road to Peluva began almost 40 years ago when co-founder Mark Sisson began his transformation from an elite endurance athlete to a world-renowned health and fitness investigator. Since then Mark has been researching and discovering ways in which we can all achieve optimal health and fitness, eventually culminating in a grassroots health movement that has grown to have a global impact. His blog MarksDailyApple, launched in 2006, is widely recognized as a primary source of reliable, well-researched articles on ancestral health. He has written several best-selling books based on the ancestral lifestyle and ketogenic diets. In 2014, he founded Primal Kitchen® foods in order to change the way the world eats. In 2021 he joined forces with his son Kyle to start Peluva, with the sole purpose of creating attractive and comfortable shoes that address the four pillars of the best minimalist shoes: little-to-no drop from heel to toe, increased flexibility, a wide toe box, and thinner soles. The result is the shoes you see here on our site today.

Sisson has always been primarily an educator. For two decades, he has promoted walking as the single best exercise (or form of movement) that anyone can do. The more the better in most cases. These shoes encourage the user to do just that. The time has never been more appropriate for a massive change in how we walk.

Connect through your sole.

Raum Goods is on a quest to connect people back to mother earth. We set out to make an ethically-sourced shoe that was made of all-natural materials and conductive to the earth. Each shoe is made by a skilled group of artisans in Southern Turkey that have been making shoes for more than five generations. Over 10% of our artisans are Syrian refugees and that are trained by our expert Turkish cobblers. All leather used is a bi-product of the food industry and we use every bit of it. Our soles are naturally vegetable-tanned that does not use chrome in the tanning process. We significantly reduce water waste and pollution that is typical in the footwear industry by not using steel molds or harmful chemicals in our shoe making process. The vast majority of shoes have components sourced from all over the world. This significantly contributes to greenhouse gas emission during their transportation. We are so proud that ALL parts of our shoes are sourced locally to Southern Turkey within a 90 mile radius. This is virtually unheard of in modern footwear.

The future is primitive.

I have trained in my craft using leather, being a natural material for shoes as it intuitively reflects the movement and flexibility of the foot. I make my shoes with great respect to the animal that lived before, they are designed to last - in defiance to all the masses of shoes made to rest in landfill and replaced by a new pair each time. The leather I have been using is called Full grain Italian which despite the name almost certainly from Argentinian cattle raised on the Pampa plains. Full grain means it is the strongest and most durable part of the hide of an animal from just below the hair. Additionally, since the grain is so tight, it resists moisture very well.
