How Minimal-list handles newsletter sign-ups, website analytics, catalogue data, affiliate links and other information connected with using minimal-list.org.

1. Information we collect

If you join the Minimal-list mailing list, we collect the information you submit through the sign-up form, such as your email address. Our email service provider processes that information so we can send the newsletter and manage subscriptions.

When you use minimal-list.org, hosting and analytics services may receive technical information such as your IP address, device or browser information, pages viewed, referral information and interaction data. We use this to operate the site, understand how it is used and improve it.

If you request a State of Barefoot report-release notification, we store your email address and consent record in Firestore to send the requested announcement and measure interest. This does not subscribe you to the weekly newsletter. You can withdraw your request by contacting adam@minimal-list.org.

If you contact Minimal-list directly, we may keep the information you provide so we can respond and maintain an appropriate record of the conversation.

If you enter a Minimal-list reader giveaway, we store the email address you provide in a private campaign record so we can administer the draw and contact a winner. Any newsletter subscription is a separate, optional choice and is not created automatically by entering.

Golden Toe voting and research

For Golden Toe, we collect your email, choices, country, verification and participation records, and any optional Kids context, messages to brands or shops, survey answers or Instagram declaration you provide. Votes and research responses are kept in private Firebase/Firestore records. Verification emails are delivered through Resend; security and hosting use BotID and Vercel.

We use this information to verify and validate votes, manage requested entries and produce State of Barefoot findings and useful recommendations. Optional answers can be linked to your vote internally. Published or shared research, including reports and paid data packs supplied to brands or sponsors, uses grouped or anonymised findings; identifiable respondent records are not sold or supplied to sponsors.

Optional messages to a brand or shop may be shared with that recipient without your name or email, after identifying details are withheld. Please leave personal details out of messages.

Identifiable records are kept while needed for award validation, requested entries, the 2026 research and queries, with longer retention only where legally necessary. Once identifiers are no longer needed, they are removed or records anonymised. Anonymous findings may be retained. You can contact us to ask about your information or object to research use. The Golden Toe Voting & Research Terms give the campaign details. Newsletter consent remains separate.

Awards opening reminders and Industry Panel requests

If you request a Golden Toe voting-opening reminder, we store your email and the wording, version and time of your permission in a private Firestore record. That permission covers one opening announcement, not newsletter or results emails. To withdraw before the announcement, contact hello@minimal-list.org.

For an Industry Panel request, we collect your organisation or professional name, website or profile, industry role, primary country or market, name, email and panel email choice. We use these to confirm your email, check eligibility and manage the nominated organisation contact. Verification and next-steps emails are delivered through Resend. Requests and membership records are private; applying does not subscribe you to the consumer newsletter.

A private, necessary session cookie lets a verified contact manage panel preferences in that browser for up to 30 days. The next-steps email includes a private, time-limited access link to open those preferences in another browser. Keep that link private. Pause or leave through the preferences page, or contact hello@minimal-list.org. Leaving stops panel invitations; requests concerning deletion of personal information or research responses can be made separately. These permissions are separate from public contributor recognition or attributed quotes.

2. How we use information

We use personal information to provide requested communications, operate and secure the website, understand site performance, respond to enquiries and maintain Minimal-list's business records where necessary.

We do not sell personal information to advertisers. Newsletter marketing is sent only through the subscription relationship, and you can unsubscribe using the link in an email or by contacting us.

3. Hosting, catalogue and service providers

Minimal-list.org is hosted on Vercel. Catalogue and editorial data used to publish brand, product and commercial information is stored in Firebase/Firestore and related managed infrastructure.

Newsletter subscriptions and email delivery are handled through Mailchimp. Website measurement uses analytics services including Google Analytics. These providers process information under their own privacy terms and only for the services they provide to us.

Providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Their own privacy notices describe their processing locations and safeguards in more detail.

4. Retailers, affiliate links and payments

Minimal-list links to retailers, brands and affiliate partners. When you follow one of those links, the destination site's privacy policy governs the information you provide there. Affiliate links may contain identifiers that allow a retailer or affiliate network to attribute a visit or purchase to Minimal-list.

Minimal-list does not operate a consumer shoe checkout and does not collect or store shoppers' payment-card details on this website. Where a separate Minimal-list business service is paid for through a third-party payment provider, that provider handles payment-card information under its own privacy terms.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

Minimal-list and its service providers may use cookies or similar technologies needed for site operation, security, analytics and attribution. The exact technologies can change as the site and its providers change, so browser controls and the relevant provider privacy information are the best source for managing them.

6. Disclosure and security

We may disclose information when required by law, to protect the site or its users, or to service providers that need the information to perform services for Minimal-list.

We take reasonable measures to protect information under our control. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

7. Your choices and requests

You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time. If you want to ask about personal information we hold about you, or request access, correction or deletion where applicable, contact us at adam@minimal-list.org.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Minimal-list's website, services or legal obligations change. Material changes will be reflected on this page.

If ownership of Minimal-list changes, information held by the business may transfer as part of that change subject to applicable law.

9. Affiliate disclosure

Minimal-list has affiliate relationships and other commercial relationships with some providers mentioned on the site and may earn compensation when a visitor makes a qualifying purchase. Sponsored placements and other paid relationships are identified where applicable.

Minimal-list participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and may also use other affiliate networks and direct partner programmes.
