Product information
The Tanuki models came to life thanks to a unique coincidence and a heartfelt collaboration.
Japanese washi paper has a tradition of more than a 1000 years, with a variety of uses. But it was only after
Mr. Itioi and Wildling crossed paths
that this magical fabric found its way into minimal footwear.
Fibers from the
Abaca plant
are woven together using a special technique making the Tanuki model breathable and water permeable.
The weave, together with the paper-textile properties, makes it the ideal shoe for warm conditions.
At only 2 to 5.3 ounces it's one of the lightest shoes in the world - giving an unprecedented feeling of freedom.
The permeable paper upper with its super quick drying qualities makes the Tanuki ideal for water adventures - just remove the hempling insoles. Or simply replace them with washi insoles (
available separately
).

Care
Waterproofing before first-time wear
This minimal shoe is water-permeable. Consequently, waterproofing is not necessary.
Cleaning
If the shoes get soiled, it’s best to brush them clean gently when they’re dry or wash them gently by hand. Not machine washable.
If this minimal shoe walks through salt water with you, we recommend rinsing it well with fresh water afterwards.
We recommend removing the insoles from the shoes after use for airing and to avoid moisture build-up.
They can be carefully washed by hand. Allow to dry completely before putting them back. Not machine washable.
Video tutorials explaining how to care for your shoes are available on the
Wildling Shoes YouTube channel

Additional notes
Every single shoe is a handmade one of a kind, with an upper made from natural material. The structure and coloration may exhibit minor irregularities.
A hue appears different depending on the lighting conditions. That's why colors always look a little different on the screen, in artificial light at home, or outside in sunlight.
Extensive use can result in a kind of denim effect.
When putting on, please note: Widen the opening of the shoe sufficiently by loosening the laces. This minimizes wear on the material and extends the life of the shoe.
