We would like to help change the perception of "normal" footwear. We are certainly not alone in this - there are more good brands and we are also working to change people's thinking not only about the health of the feet, but of the whole body. Because in the human body everything is related to everything. We are reaching out to the world of barefoot stores who are excited about the new brand as it expands the current footwear offering. Our shoes have a timeless design that appeals to a wider range of customers. Otherwise, ballerinas and children's shoes will soon be shown to the world.

The entire shoe is made in the Czech Republic, but not only from Czech materials. Unfortunately, it is not possible to ensure long-term serial production using materials from the Czech Republic. However, all materials are actually produced (not just imported) in the EU. We collect the leather in a Czech tannery, the cows come from free pastures. Did you know that cows are not killed for their leather? Using leather is essentially waste processing. Nowadays, a lot of cow hide ends up in incinerators, so we are happy that at least some of it will be used for further processing.

Our company is named after the Greek myth of Icarus. Icarus' dad built him a pair of wings from feathers and wax. His father warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun. Icarus took off immediately and flew high. Ignoring his father's warning, Icarus climbed up towards the sun. He got so close that the heat melted the wax holding his wings together, and Icarus fell from the sky. Most people criticize Icarus for being reckless; they say he should have played it safe, avoiding a dangerous situation. We decide to focus on Icarus choosing to take a bold risk, to set out to achieve something no one else had ever done. Icarus may have failed in his task, but he did so inside the arena, striving valiantly to do the deed, devoting himself to a worthy cause. Shoe and leather work has a rich tradition in this region, but it slowly disappears, and shoesworking glory and handmade leather craft is slowly falling into oblivion. Leguano barefoot shoes were designed in Germany by a group of movement specialists and barefoot professionals. After experiencing the negative effects of running in stiff shoes with maximal support, they began researching the benefits of running barefoot. They found that after a gradual and safe transition to running barefoot, people (including themselves) commonly experienced less injuries and pain associated with running.

To us, it’s simple – shoes should be designed using the bare minimum. They should fit the foot’s anatomy, while allowing your feet to move like you’re wearing nothing at all.

When we conceived our brand in 2018, our goal was to create a healthy and minimalist shoe, that looked great and was entirely made of natural materials.

Walking the path to optimal health and fitness

The** Peluva® **story begins with a pioneering vision to change the way the world walks, and a dream collaboration between Mark Sisson and his son, Kyle Sisson (pictured above.) Through their own deep research and applied knowledge, Mark and Kyle have identified the greatest design challenge facing the minimalist shoe movement and taken it head on. Over the last two and half years, they've charted a course for blue ocean by reimagining the concept of minimalist shoes, with the first-ever design to deliver all three crucial buying criteria: greater comfort, function and style.

However, the real road to Peluva began almost 40 years ago when co-founder Mark Sisson began his transformation from an elite endurance athlete to a world-renowned health and fitness investigator. Since then Mark has been researching and discovering ways in which we can all achieve optimal health and fitness, eventually culminating in a grassroots health movement that has grown to have a global impact. His blog MarksDailyApple, launched in 2006, is widely recognized as a primary source of reliable, well-researched articles on ancestral health. He has written several best-selling books based on the ancestral lifestyle and ketogenic diets. In 2014, he founded Primal Kitchen® foods in order to change the way the world eats. It became the leader in the “better for you” food revolution and continues to grow impressively under the leadership of its co-founder Morgan Zanotti at Kraft Heinz.

During his decades of looking for ways to improve the health of millions – whether through altering the diet, mixing up exercise patterns, changing sleep habits, getting more (not less) sun and developing easier, more delicious ways to eat healthy – Mark has been obsessed with shoes and foot health. He was an early proponent of barefoot living and the minimalist shoe movement. Despite owning hundreds of pairs of minimalist shoes, his disappointment and frustration at the industry’s inability to produce a comfortable, good-looking minimalist shoe led him to create his own. In 2021 he joined forces with his son Kyle to start Peluva, with the sole purpose of creating attractive and comfortable shoes that address the four pillars of the best minimalist shoes: little-to-no drop from heel to toe, increased flexibility, a wide toe box, and thinner soles. The result is the shoes you see here on our site today.

Sisson has always been primarily an educator. For two decades, he has promoted walking as the single best exercise (or form of movement) that anyone can do. The more the better in most cases. These shoes encourage the user to do just that. The time has never been more appropriate for a massive change in how we walk.

I have trained in my craft using leather, being a natural material for shoes as it intuitively reflects the movement and flexibility of the foot. I make my shoes with great respect to the animal that lived before, they are designed to last - in defiance to all the masses of shoes made to rest in landfill and replaced by a new pair each time. The leather I have been using is called Full grain Italian which despite the name almost certainly from Argentinian cattle raised on the Pampa plains. Full grain means it is the strongest and most durable part of the hide of an animal from just below the hair. Additionally, since the grain is so tight, it resists moisture very well.
